Training Philosophy

We believe in only positive reinforcement. We do not knowingly adopt our cats to homes where short sighted, relationship harming techniques or methods are utilized. We deplore the use of declawing as barbaric and cruel. Positive and consistent training is associated with fewer behavior problems and greater obedience than methods that involve punishment and/or encourage human dominance. From Forgotten to Forever depends solely on foster homes to help us rescue cats. Fosters are highly needed and valued. We are committed to supporting our fosters to enhance their rescue experience and to guarantee that each dog is adoptable and adopted.

FFTF has veterinarians that provide discounted services. Because of this, all nonemergency vet care must be approved in advance by an FFTF board member or coordinator. This includes routine exams, vaccinations, dental care, spaying or neutering, treatment for coughing, diarrhea, cherry eye, etc.

Contract

A contract between the owners of the cat, known herein as "rescuer" or “rescue” and the caretakers of the cat, known herein as "foster home" or "foster family." The foster family fully understands that they are to act as a foster home for one or more of the rescuer’s cats, referred herein as “the animal” or “the animals.” The following conditions apply to fostering of rescuer’s cats while in the foster’s care and in their home:

1 The animal will be kept in the house at all times.
2 The animal will remain the property of rescue. The animal will be surrendered to an officer of rescue or the president of the rescue immediately on request.
3 The animal will be fed, watered and exercised appropriately.
4 The animal will be an indoor cat, unless in a safe outdoor enclosure or totally supervised on a harness. I acknowledge FFTF reserves the right to perform a home visit. I understand failure to comply with this agreement will result in a fine in the amount of $1000.00 and payment of any or all fees if legal means are required to enforce the agreement.
5 The foster home will not be compensated for expenses incurred in the normal daily care of the animal unless the purchase was pre-approved by a rescue officer. Expenditures incurred by the foster family other than emergency care and treatment require prior approval by rescuer. The foster family will be held responsible for unapproved expenditures.
6 Veterinary care will be provided by rescue. This includes vaccinations, preventative care, altering, and any prescription medications necessary for the cat.
7 The animal is to be adopted to its permanent home only under the supervision of rescue to a family pre-approved by rescue. Adoptive families may be contacted by the foster family to inquire about the animal, however, adoptive families are to accorded respect and privacy. Excessively casual or excessively aggressive contacts with potential and actual adoptive families are not desirable.
8 All donations connected with the adoption of the animal will be sent directly to rescue.
9 Questions or problems are to be directed to rescue officers. If there is a need to remove the animal from the foster home, the animal is to be given directly to a rescue officer.
10 The foster family accepts responsibility for any and all events that occur in connection with the fostering of a rescue animal. The foster family agrees to release and indemnify rescuer from any and all claims, known and unknown, now or hereafter, arising in connection with the animal.
11 Rescuer requires that the foster family have a crate available should its use be necessary. Crates are available upon request.
